If you find yourself in Hannington make sure you take the time to visit the church of St. John the Baptist. When you get there take a look at the right hand side of the chancel arch and there you will find an effigy of a knight templar

(c.1180-1190) who is buried here and was most likely a resident of the preceptory of the Knights Templar at Cricklade.

Legend has it that this knight may have been given charge of this church and it is said that his dark figure has been seen within the building from time to time.
